ImageLib & Microfiche

When asked if it was posssible to scan Microfiche Images in ImageLib, Dale Barnes of Highland Insurance replied:

"It is very possible. Check to see if your microfiche system has a scsi adapter (older ones may not have it) but if it does, check with the company that makes it for a Twain or ISIS driver (ISIS requires license). We used a Canon MS-800 that was just a fiche viewer for jacketed film since we already had this. Using ImageLib Suite 5 (now using 6), I was able to develop a scanning utility to scan each of the images on the microfiche system and save them to the dataserver.... We are still in the early stages but have protypes running for management and they are very happy with the results. With ImageLib, I was able to create the viewer and scanning tool in just a few days (basic versions) to give management an idea of what the package may look like. Bottom line was we are able to move all the images from microfilm and also from three other systems (3.4 million images) to one using ImageLib, SQL2000. What a combo."

Just had chance to change one of our scanning apps to support version 6 and here are some quick results:

Scanner is a Fujitsu M4097D scanner, rated at 50 pages per minute simplex, 90 ppm duplex. Using Fujitsu M4097D with the Adaptec 2904 card on an Athlon 1200 ( 512MB Ram ) the figures are:

300 dpi 40 ppm ( all images display, save compressed )
100 dpi 56 ppm
300 dpi duplex 64 ppm
100 dpi duplex 104 ppm

Again, right up there with the recommended accelerator board."

Good News! ImageLib Corporate Suite 7 now is compatible with Canon Image Runner Scanners. No need to purchase any new software from Canon!

New Color Formats

The file formats supported by the Suite include: PCD (Photo CD), TIFF CCITT 3 and 4, Multipage TIFFs, Pack bits, TIFF LZW**, AVI, WAV, MID, Animated GIF**, Transparent GIF**, Progressive JPG and PNG. Color Imaging Features-Image Correction and Effects Editor

The Corporate Suite 7 is equipped with a myriad of image correction effects, manipulation and deformation tools and offers over forty filters that allow easy handling of color image files. Correction Effects such as brightening, contrast, color reduction and rotation provide vast improvement on dull, difficult to read images. Also included are items such as hue and saturation, edge detection, inverting and sharpening. Special effects can give color images a special look by incorporation some of our deformation tools such as oil painting, mosaic, page curl, wave, etc.
