SkyLine Tools Imaging proudly presents the prestigious Programmer of the Year Award to Shelley Emmerson, Imaging Technology Expert for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Using the SkyLine Tools Imaging Corporate Suite and videolib Pro, Emmerson created an application that could input, store, and organize the thousands of images, documents, and video footage resulting from the investigation of the tragic 1998 Swissair Flight 111 crash. The crash claimed 225 lives when the aircraft went down in more than 200 feet of water near Halifax Nova Scotia, four miles off the coastal town of Peggy's Cove.
Emmerson "used the advanced imaging technologies of the Corporate Suite combined with the Inprise Delphi and C++Builder technology to scan, process, data-capture, archive, and display images, documents and video with exceptional accuracy and speed."
Up and Running In 12 Hours
With distraught next-of-kin anxiously awaiting news of their loved one's fate, speed and accuracy were the most crucial elements in this investigation. In only 12 hours Emmerson put together an award-winning application that was capable of managing the "magnitude of information including post-mortem and anti-mortem information of 225 victims being used in the investigation." The toolkit of choice was the ImageLib Corporate Suite and the ImageLib videolib Pro from SkyLine Tools because of its rapid deployment capablitlies and comprehensive feature-set. The system "captured and archived tens of thousands of scanned documents, records, hand written forms, past and recent photographs and current digital images. The information had to be retrieved and disseminated to at least 37 workstations at the crash site, to other Candian investigators located at remote sites across Canada, and to law enforcement officers of the FBI and several other foreign agencies."
SkyLine Tools Imaging Salutes Shelley Emmerson and his entire development team at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for their outstanding accomplishment in imaging application programming.
Other tools used were: Multi-Edit from American Cybernetics, InfoPower4 from Wall-2-Wall, InterBase 5 SQL relational database program from InterBase Software, and Crystal Reports from Seagate Software. A Windows NT workstation was utilized as the application server.
